Smith Wants to Stay in SF

Alex Smith feels like he has finally found a home.  In one of the feel good stories of this NFL season, Smith had a breakout season under new coach Jim Harbaugh, and the two have found a bond that Smith hopes to continue into next season.

At this point I love it here,” Smith said. “Love what’s going on. Love this team and coaching staff, everything about it. So no question I’d love to stay here.”

Before the season, Smith signed a one year contract with the 49ers, and responded with his best season ever – throwing for over 3,000 yards, with 17 TDs and only 5 INTs.  In the playoffs, he threw for 5 TDs and no interceptions, and earned a passer rating of 101 in two games.  The 49ers tied an NFL record for fewest turnovers by an offense, tying the record set by the 2010 New England Patriots.

Smith would prefer to get something done quickly, when asked about timing, saying, “I think sooner rather than later, no question.”  And with his performance this year, all indications are that the team feels the same way.
