NFL Combine: Linebackers Full Measurements

With more and more teams in the NFL going to 3-4 defenses, linebackers are now more important than people even realize. Whether you are a pass rushing OLB, or a fast LB that can cover in space, or even an smart ILB, the position is at a premium during the NFL Draft, which means it’s a very important positions to pay attention to in the NFL draft. Because typically DEs in college are smaller than NFL DEs, a lot of them have to make the position change to OLBs in the 3-4, but not everyone has the hip movement to cover, which is where the NFL Combine come into play.

Three Linebackers will definitely hear their name called on day 1 of the NFL draft. First is the OLB from Buffalo, Khalil Mack, who Mike Mayock of NFL Network considers the best pass rusher in this draft and would even consider him for #1. Second is Anthony Barr from UCLA, a player that originally was tabbed as a possible top 5 pick, but has been scrutinized for sometimes showing a lack of effort and may now go anywhere from 7th to 15th. The 3rd Linebacker is from the forgotten position of ILB. CJ Mosley of Alabama is ranked as the #1 ILB in the draft, but still isn’t projected to go until the 15-20 range.

Mack measure in at 6’3 251 lbs, an arm length of 33 and 1/4th inches, and a hand length of 10 and 1/4th inches. Anthony Barr checked in at 6’5 255 lbs, an arm length of 33 and half inches, and a 9 and 3/8th inch hand length. CJ Mosley came in at 6’2 234 lbs, an arm length of 33 and 3/8th inches, and a 10 and 3/4th inch hand length. Mack and Barr are right in the range you want for your typical OLB, while Mosley could stand to add another 5-10 lbs, but he will try to depend more on his experience in a complex defense and his athleticism.
