Seattle, WA- After trading away their best pass rusher Frank Clark to the Chiefs earlier this week, the Seahawks had to go after someone who could be a game-changer on the defensive end. With their first pick, the Seahawks decided to go after L.J. Collier who was the defensive end for TCU. A lot of fans were not happy about the pick and felt like the Seahawks should have gone for an offensive lineman.
The Seahawks like Colliers’ frame and how well he can get past defenders. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Collier reminds him of Michael Bennett. “He has the versatility and the style and the penetration ability,” Carroll said. “He’s really slippery. Terrific pass-rush makeup.”
L.J. fits us,” General manager John Schneider said. “He’s a heavy-handed, tough, chip-on-his-shoulder guy. He lost his mother when he was a freshman in college and he didn’t play well in the last game that she saw, and he’s always used that to his advantage.” Said Carroll: “We think we’ve really got something really special in him. I fell in love with the fact that he’s got a big chip on his shoulder and he wants to prove it and all that.”
Despite having the #29 pick and drafting a player that a lot of teams did not want, the Seahawks have seven more picks and could land some players that can help them out with their offensive line, as well as picking up another wide receiver. Do not count the Seahawks out just yet. “Schneider feels very optimistic on the deck of picks that they have and said this;” We really feel like we’re back in the mix in this draft.”
