Melvin Ingram headed for nickel role

According to Pro Football Weekly, the Chargers plan to deploy 1st-round pick Melvin Ingram primarily as a nickel pass rusher this year. San Diego already has OLB Shaun Phillips around and signed former Raven OLB Jarret Johnson in free agency this offseason. That affords the team patience with its top pick and could also allow the Chargers to explore Ingram's versatility. Throw in OLB Antwan Barnes as well -- among the league's top situational rushers last year -- and the Chargers could sport quite the strong pass rush overall. Phillips is the best IDP bet for now simply because he's likely to see the most playing time. None will probably register too highly, though, in typical tackle-favoring formats.
