The Buffalo Bills lost to the Miami Dolphins 35-8 in a game which extended both teams current streaks. After Miami started 0-7, they have now won the last 3 games convincingly to reach 3-7. The Bills started the season 4-1 with big comeback wins over Oakland and New England, but they have now lost 3 straight and dropped to 5-5, struggling to make the playoffs.
The Dolphins dominated the Bills, and everything that could have gone wrong in the game did. Buffalo quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 209 yards, but no TDs and 2 INTs. The Bills managed only 41 yards rushing in the game.
Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore had an Aaron Rodgers-like efficiency rating of 133.3, as he went 14 of 20 for 160 yards with 3 TDs and no INTs. Miami also committed no turnovers.
To make matters worse for the Bills, more players were lost to injury. In each game on their current 3-game losing streak, they have added more players to the injury rolls. Two weeks ago, they lost kicker Rian Lindell. Last week, they lost OL Eric Wood and S George Wilson. And this week, both CB Terrence McGee and WR Donald Jones were carried off on the trainer’s cart.
McGee had a knee injury, and the initial prognosis from head coach Chan Gailey is not promising. “McGee is not good,” Gailey said. “He’s probably done (for the year).”
With regard to Jones, Gailey said, “It’s that same ankle and it’s another bad sprain.”
“I don’t know if that’s three weeks or six weeks.”
RB Fred Jackson, who is having a Pro Bowl and MVP-type of year, was also injured and left the game in the second half with a right leg injury. Through today’s game, he has 934 yards rushing, and 442 yards receiving.
“He got banged up,” said Gailey. “They did an x-ray which was negative. Still he took a pretty good lick on there and it’s the same calf that was bothering him so I don’t know what the extent of that will be.”
Jackson didn’t seem to be two concerned about the injury, saying, “It was just a bruise. We’ll get some treatment on it this week and see what happens.”
Buffalo faces the Jets again next weekend, the team that started their current losing streak. Another loss to the Jets next weekend could knock Buffalo out of the playoff hunt after a very promising start.
Miami, on the other hand, isn’t really playing for anything beyond pride, but they may be as hot as any team in the league right now. They have won their last three games by a combined score of 86-20.
