NFL insider Len Pasquarelli hears that WR Eddie Royal has caught on quickly in San Diego. According to Pasquarelli, there is "legitimate excitement" about Royal's potential as the team's slot guy. He's reportedly meshed well with QB Philip Rivers this offseason, and the coaching staff has acknowledged that Royal has looked good in practice. Pasquarelli expects San Diego to alter its passing attack a bit this year, using more quick-hitting pass plays. That'd benefit Royal, who is a possession receiver with dangerous after-the-catch ability. San Diego's #3 WR has never topped 27 catches in Rivers' 6 seasons, but Royal has a good chance to zoom by that mark in 2012. His role in the offense will be worth monitoring in camp. For now, he looks like an intriguing bench stash in PPR formats.
