According to Dan Hoard of Bengals.com, Brandon Tate is a "legitimate candidate to win a starting role this season." That, of course, would be the #2 spot opposite A.J. Green. Tate got plenty of work with the 1st-team offense in OTAs and minicamp. “He’s been one of the best surprises of camp for me,” OC Jay Gruden said. “He’s got all the ability. He runs all of the routes great, he’s got great feel, and he’s done an outstanding job.” After coming over from New England last year, Tate was a pure special-teamer and didn't record a single catch. The former 3rd-rounder has some ability -- he averaged 18 yards per catch with the Pats back in 2010 -- but will need to fend off rookies Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones for the #2 job this summer. It'll be a camp battle worth monitoring.
